Frequently asked questions

About metering pumps for water treatment

Which pump do I need to dose sodium hypochlorite?

A peristaltic pump is recommended, because hypochlorite off-gasses and can vapor-lock diaphragm pumps.

How do I calculate the capacity I need?

Pump flow = (water flow × dose) / product concentration. Running at 50–70% of maximum capacity is recommended for better accuracy.

How often do metering pumps need maintenance?

Peristaltic pumps: replace the tube every 6–12 months. Diaphragm pumps: replace the diaphragm and valves every 12–24 months. A general inspection every quarter.

Can dosing be automated?

Yes, with an in-line sensor connected to a controller. Closed-loop control is more accurate and recommended for chlorination and pH.

Can I dose several chemicals with the same pump?

No. Each product needs its own pump, injection point and tank. Mixing incompatible products can cause dangerous reactions.
