Frequently asked questions
About filters and valves for water treatment
What is the difference between a multimedia filter and activated carbon?
A multimedia filter removes solid particles (physical filtration); activated carbon removes chlorine and organics (adsorption). They are installed in series.
How often is water softener resin replaced?
Resin typically lasts 4 to 5 years. In hotels, regeneration salt is typically replenished every 1 to 2 weeks.
Which valve is better, Fleck or Clack?
Both are reliable, well-established control valves, and both offer good durability. The choice depends on the specific application.
Why is a water softener so important in the Riviera Maya?
Groundwater is extremely hard because of the karst geology: in the water analyses we commissioned from 2009 to 2020, untreated water measured 360–492 mg/L as CaCO₃ in the Cancún Hotel Zone (8 samples) and 550–730 mg/L in Riviera Maya wells (30 samples). Without softening, scale damages equipment and lowers its efficiency.
How often are cartridge filters replaced?
Sediment cartridges every 1–3 months and carbon cartridges every 3–6 months, or when the pressure drop exceeds 10–15 psi.
