01 · NOM-245-SSA1-2010

Pools and spa

A pool that falls out of compliance with NOM-245, Mexico’s pool water standard, can be shut down. Every month we sample pools, hot tubs and wading pools, control chlorine and pH, and leave you the report for the inspector.

02 · NOM-201-SSA1-2015 · Distintivo H

Ice and food service

Ice in bars and guest rooms gets contaminated inside the machine, not in the water supply. We test ice (NOM-201, Mexico’s standard for water and ice for human consumption), kitchen water, food and surfaces for the Distintivo H.

03 · Legionella pneumophila · ASHRAE 188

Hot water and Legionella

Hotel chains ask for a water management plan. We sample hot water, showers, fan coil units and cooling towers; results take 10 to 14 days because Legionella must be grown in culture. For yellow, rust-stained water, BM-72 protects the piping.

04 · Cooling towers · chillers · boilers

Mechanical room

The Yucatán Peninsula’s hard water scales boilers and corrodes chillers. Under a monthly chemical treatment contract, we dose and test on site; if your own team runs the equipment, we supply our in-house BM formulas by the 20 L drum.

05 · NOM-127-SSA1-2021

Drinking water

Cisterns, reverse osmosis and water softeners that keep service water within NOM-127, Mexico’s drinking water standard, with chlorination and periodic testing.

06 · NOM-001 · NOM-002-SEMARNAT

Treatment plant and discharges

Composite sampling of your discharge to the municipal sewer and of your treatment plant’s effluent under NOM-001 and NOM-002-SEMARNAT, Mexico’s wastewater discharge standards, with a report for the local water utility or CONAGUA, Mexico’s National Water Commission.

Questions from hotel chief engineers

Is the report valid for COFEPRIS and chain audits?

Yes. Samples are collected under chain of custody and analyzed with the methods of the official Mexican standards in laboratories accredited by EMA, Mexico’s accreditation body.

Can you work alongside my current chemical supplier?

Yes. We can start with laboratory testing only, as an independent check on what your current supplier doses.

What area do you cover?

From Cancún to Tulum, sampling is included in the quote. Cozumel, Mérida and Ciudad del Carmen are served with a quoted travel charge.

Do you serve hotels in Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum?

Yes. We serve hotels and resorts in the Cancún Hotel Zone, Costa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Playacar, Puerto Morelos, Tulum and the rest of the Riviera Maya, with technical visits, scheduled sampling and chemical supply. Water treatment in Cancún →

Who does Legionella testing for hotels in Cancún?

Grupo Eytra collects the sample at your hotel in Cancún, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya down to Tulum, and Legionella pneumophila is analyzed in an EMA-accredited laboratory. Results take 10 to 14 days because of the culture time. With the results, our engineers define the control program for cooling towers, hot water and the plumbing system.

How is Legionella controlled in a hotel’s water?

With a program that combines an adequate hot water temperature, a residual disinfectant in the distribution system, biocide treatment in cooling towers, periodic cleaning of tanks and showerheads, and follow-up microbiological testing. We help you define the sampling points and frequency for your hotel.

What water treatment services do you offer hotels?

Comprehensive programs that include chemical treatment for cooling towers, chillers and hot water systems, chemical stabilization of reverse osmosis water, and physicochemical and microbiological testing for health control and regulatory compliance.

What problems can poorly treated water cause in a hotel?

The most common are scale in equipment, corrosion in piping, bacterial growth in hot water systems, high energy use, and possible health or environmental non-compliance.

Do you test water for compliance with official standards?

Yes. We test for compliance with standards such as NOM-127 for service water, NOM-245 for pools, and NOM-001 and NOM-002 for wastewater discharges, plus microbiological monitoring for health control.

Can I compare your results with my current provider’s before switching?

Yes. You can order a one-time laboratory test, with no commitment, and compare our report with your current provider’s results before making any decision. The test is contracted separately and does not commit you to a treatment program.

Which parameters are monitored in hotel water?

Physicochemical parameters such as pH, hardness, alkalinity, conductivity and turbidity, and microbiological parameters such as coliforms, E. coli and potentially harmful bacteria in water systems.

Do you supply chemicals for treating these systems?

Yes. We supply scale control products, corrosion inhibitors, reverse osmosis water stabilizers, and treatments for cooling and hot water systems.

Do you supply reagents for monitoring water quality?

Yes. We also offer reagents and test kits for parameters such as hardness, free chlorine residual and pH, so hotel operators can run routine water quality checks.

What does a hotel gain from a water treatment program?

Protection of the plumbing and mechanical systems, more efficient equipment, lower maintenance costs, health control of the water and compliance with the applicable regulations.

What percentage of a hotel pool’s water must be replaced every day?

NOM-245-SSA1-2010 requires replacing at least 5% of the pool’s total volume every day. This dilutes contaminants that disinfection does not remove, such as chloramines, total dissolved solids and disinfection byproducts. Non-compliance can lead to closure during COFEPRIS inspections.

What is biofilm, and how is it prevented in a hotel’s water systems?

Biofilm is a layer of microorganisms (bacteria, algae, fungi) that sticks to the inside of pipes, tanks and recirculation equipment. It resists conventional disinfection and can harbor pathogens such as Legionella. It is prevented with chemical treatment programs that include specific biocides, periodic system cleaning and adequate disinfectant residual levels.

How soon after collection must water samples be analyzed?

Microbiological samples should be analyzed within the first 6 hours, because bacterial populations change quickly. For physicochemical parameters, the maximum is 24 to 72 hours depending on the parameter, with the sample kept refrigerated at 4 °C. Our sample collection service includes chain of custody to keep transport times and conditions within those limits.
